The Pharmacy Practice Residency Program (PPRP) aims at providing high quality pharmacy practice training to foster the concept that the pharmacist is responsible and accountable for optimal pharmaceutical care of patients.
The pharmacists have a major role to play in today’s health care. In hospital settings, the role of the pharmacists towards patients and health care team is well documented both locally and on international levels. Additional patient-oriented training for the pharmacists working in the Kingdom hospitals is essential and required. The training program aims to produce a pharmacist who is able to interact effectively with medical teams for safe and effective use of medications. The pharmacist who has completed this program will gain the required skills for effective communication with the medical team leading to a better involvement in patient care. Initially, the training program will expose the pharmacists to a general training residency for a full one year. Successful candidates will then be able to continue a clinical pharmacy practice residency program for an additional year. A Pharmacy Practice Residency Program instills a philosophy of practice that embraces the concept that pharmacists must be responsible and accountable for optimal drug therapy.
